Why 2025 Will See the Rise of the "Bed-Rotting" Trend

Let’s be truthful. These days, life seems to go too quickly. Many of us are simply exhausted by deadlines, never-ending notifications, and the continual push to “hustle.” And now, “bed-rotting,” a new self-care fad, is gaining popularity. Sounds funny, right? But actually, it’s something most of us secretly do already.

Bed-rotting basically means spending extra time in bed—scrolling, watching, sleeping, or just lying down—without guilt. Earlier, people would call it lazy. But now, it’s being seen as self-care. And frankly, I feel it makes sense. Our bodies and minds need rest, yaar. Sometimes, simply switching off is more powerful than chasing yet another productivity hack.

Social media has made this trend huge in 2025, with Gen Z and millennials openly celebrating it. And honestly, I’m glad it’s normalising rest. (C’mon, let’s be real, not every day has to be “grind mode”.) If lying through the morning makes you feel better, why not lie in bed a little longer? Naturally, balance is vital. It’s bad for you to sleep all day, every day. It can be really supportive of your own experience to take small pauses when you can, listen to your body, let yourself relax without guilt.
